LGBT Rights
|
Our lives, as Americans, come in many different forms. Our experiences can seem so different from one another that it may seem impossible to see eye to eye with every other person who lives in this beautiful country. So many things, like our family, our heritage, and our profession, shape how we experience our lives. It is easy to forget that, at the end of the day, we are all Americans. Each and every one of us has our American identity in common with one another.
As Americans, we dream the best for this country.
When we stand united, we can make that dream a reality.
I stand up for the LGBT community because they are Americans. Whom they chose to love, and how they chose to identify, does nothing to invalidate their citizenship. I am willing to fight for their right to be treated as equals. Every American should be treated as an equal. America was founded to strive towards ideals of diversity and inclusion. We are a melting pot of cultures, ideas, traditions, and heritage that needs to be respected. I intend to respect the ideals that America was founded upon by helping LGBT people weave seamlessly into the beautiful fabric that is the United States.
I have been a supporter of LGBT rights long before I ever decided to run for office. I participated in LGBT causes for over a decade. This began during my time at college when I joined Friendly Colors as an ally as soon as I had the chance and continued by attending community events with my children, including PrideFest. I firmly believe that no American should be treated differently based on a perceived difference. At the end of the day, we are all Americans. I am running for senator to see a better future for all who call America home.
